Mural intervention for the festival “Iconic”, @Curbstreetart

In my dialect, “the Viddani”, are those who work the land, the villagers with a strong attachment to the land and their crafts. Sometimes this term is used negatively by those who belong to the upper middle class.

Here in Amiens, Northern France, there are some farmers who work a land that is crossed by canals and waterways, using small boats to move between the fields called “Hortillonnages”. Among these channels I met a woman who works the land, her name is Perrine and she has a strong look and a shy smile. She is proud of her work and I decided to represent her with the gallows in her hand: a symbol of strength and resistance.

The mural is painted next to the entrance to a bank, in a glossy street in the centre. I chose this wall because I like contrasts, because I like those who work rather than those who waste, because I still like “the viddani” rather than the petty bourgeois.
