Transumanze is a series that I started to produce around 2018, which has as its main theme the link between nature and man who vanishes, and the loss of certain customs and ways of doing related to the pastoral world.
The genesis of Transumanze series is a research on micromigration, on the depopulation of small rural villages, on the abandonment of ancestral traditions and on the fragile bond between man and nature. This series was nourished by the creation of a traveling artistic project, “Transumanze Project” (Sicily, 2019), as well as anthropological research, artistic residencies, paintings, public art interventions, and also video material, which then gave life to the documentary “Perché sei qui”, directed by Carla Costanza.
“From wall to canvas” is the subtitle of the traveling exhibition of the Transumanze series (France 2024): most of the works in the series take as a reference the murals subsequently produced by the artist, thus creating a series of works that are transported “from the wall to the canvas”, changing their destination, from ephemeral to lasting. The works intended to be seen by all become intimate. The artist’s desire then becomes to keep track of his own evolution.
